About the Cuisine of the Costa Grande:

The cuisine of the Costa Grande de Guerrero, which extends from Acapulco all the way to the Michoacan border, centers unsurprisingly around the bounty from the sea. All the regular fare such as shrimp, oysters, lobster, whole and filleted red snapper and dorado (mahi-mahi) can be found in abundance in practically any restaurant in this area ... read more about Costa Grande Cuisine

xx Villa de la Selva, Ixtapa
Dec 24, 2007 (13:32) by Zihrena
Restaurant Villa de la Selva in Ixtapa, overlooking the Pacific ocean and stretches of Playa del Palmar, is one of the more prestigious of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo's gourmet restaurants with a history of more than 20 years in the area.

Besides it's fabulous visual setting, with perfect sunset and ocean views, the sound of the waves swishing up onto the pebbles and rocks below, and a nature show of raccoons and badgers that scour the nearby hillside for treats (the restaurant proper is separate and protected from the range of the animals), Villa de la Selva has a fabulous and inspired menu. Some of the tasty and beautifully prepared appetizers include the Mediterranean flavors of Roasted Eggplant Rolls with goat cheese and sundried tomatoes or the more Mexican Smoked Marlin Tostadas. The pastas are exquisite; the fish and other main dishes make great and unusual use of flavorful combinations of ingredients and sauces, chiles and spices.... try the savory encrusted fish fillet and beef tournedos - a real treat. Main dishes come accompanied by wonderful sides such as couscous, curried rice and smashed potatoes...

And for dessert, there's a killer Creme Brulee and an evil Chocolate, mint and blackberry concoction that is to die for...

On the pricey side, but well worth it for the quality of food and setting. A lovely place for a special occasion.

thumbup El Burro Borracho Restaurant in Troncones
Jan 03, 2007 (10:56) by Zihrena
El Burro Borracho (the Drunken Burro) restaurant has existed in Troncones beach since the early days of the community. For a long time it was about the only place to get a meal other than a couple of other small beachfront enramadas that served only fresh seafood and the most basic of Mexican snacks.

Although Troncones beach has evolved now into a long stretch of quality BnBs, vacation rentals, guest houses and hotels, many with their own food service or full restaurants, the Burro Borracho continues to be a focal point of Troncones life.

Here you can get a good hamburger with fries as well as those wonderful fresh seafood specialties that are staples along our coast. Quesadillas, shrimp tacos, soups and salads - the Burro can satisfy pretty well anyone's palate, whether they want something typical of the region or something that reminds them of home.

Of course, one of my favorite Burro treats is their Iced Cappuchino... made with ice cream, coffee and Kahlua, it's a perfect cooler for a long afternoon on the beach...

During high season the Burro Borracho stages a colorful Mexican Fiesta every Sunday night, starting at 7:30 pm. This is a popular entertainment activity for visitors to the community and is well worth taking in during your holiday there. Reservations are required; please call 553-2834.

You can also partake in the Burro's Friday Night Fiestas from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., with $10 peso beers, $10 peso house tequila, and $20 peso margaritas. As of 9 p.m. there's music from the 70's and 80's as well as reggae, salsa and a light show.

The Burro Borracho is located at the southern end of Troncones Beach. Coming in from highway 200, turn left when you hit the beach road. The Burro is a few hundred meters down the beach, with ample parking out front.

The Burro Borracho also rents bungalows. More information can be found on the website at http://www.burroborracho.com
