The Ixtapa /Zihuatanejo area has some great sportfishing possibilities and opportunities abound for the deep sea fisherman to put his hooks in the big game fish such as sailfish, dorado, marlin, roosterfish and yellowfin tuna as well as smaller fare including spanish mackerel, bonito, yellowtail jacks and barracuda.
The area is considered one of the best sailfishing destinations in the world, rated 2nd only to Costa Rica in 2001 by Sport Fishing Magazine. As such, there are a number of excellent Fishing Charter, Tour and Equipment Providers in the area.

Total Tag & Release Fishing Tournment
A Total Tag & Release Event held every November which includes fly-fishing and conventional tackle in Inshore and Offshore Divisions.
